Winners of the 2nd Edition
After the insightful presentations, the jury members of the competition had the tough job of ranking the three teams.
We are happy to announce that the team Mindful Retrofitters is going home with the title of Winner of the HBDC25!
The team Mindful Retrofitters is composed of four passionate students in the built environment at Delft University of Technology, coming from Mexico, Romania, India, and France. Their interests range from passive, circular design strategies to smart systems balancing energy and resource consumption, as well as material innovations and community empowerment. The blend of this wide variety of interests resulted in a unique approach, which integrates users’ well-being and learning into each aspect of the technical renovation.
The jury members and organizers congratulate Gaspard Marteau, Catalina Marina Persunaru, Alejandro Mendiola De la Peña, and Sana Hafsa for their innovative perspective on the renovation project of the Milanese primary school.

The second-place team in the Healthy Building Design Competition 2025 brought together students from three different universities, working across Europe:
- Matteo Bourdin – Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), currently on exchange at TU Delft, The Netherlands
- Pierre Curci – Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), currently on exchange at Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa, Portugal
- Aayush Saraf – University of Bath, UK, who participated during an exchange at TU Delft, The Netherlands at the beginning of the competition
Their proposal addressed the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations and explored how architecture can support healthier, more energy-efficient educational spaces through renovation, sustainable systems, and environmental awareness.

The third place goes to... Cracovian One! This is a multidisciplinary team from Krakow, Poland, a city actively navigating the challenges of energy transition. The team blends technical and architectural perspectives by combining students from two local universities:
AGH University of Krakow – Faculty of Energy and Fuels
- Michalina Kasprzyk
- Małgorzata Renata Strojna
- Zuzanna Maria Topolska
- Szymon Marek Pietrucha
- Anna Herzyk
- Maksymilian Homa
- Krzysztof Sornek
Cracow University of Technology – Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning
- Eliza Marczyk
- Karolina Kuzia
- Patrycja Kinga Kulon
Their collaboration reflects a shared interest in building modernization and sustainable design. Beyond the project, they are a group of close friends with a passion for discovering the world together.
